The Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention Program conducts surveillance of heart disease and stroke in North Dakota to help direct program planning and advocacy for improving cardiovascular health. This is achieved by:

  • Collecting and compiling existing data.
  • Seeking new data sources.
  • Analysis of existing and new data.
  • Interpretation and reporting of cardiovascular disease data.
  • Conducting studies in special populations or specific settings.

2014 ND Chronic Disease Status Report: provides information on the burden of chronic disease across the state.

North Dakota Department of Health Indicator Dashboard: provides information on health indicators and trends that are tracked by the Department of Health.

CDC Wonder - This easy-to-use, menu-driven system makes the information resources of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) available to public health professionals and the public at large. It provides access to a wide array of public health data and information including national, state and local statistics.

National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) - NCHS is the nation's principal health statistics agency, providing data to identify and address health issues. It employs a variety of data collection mechanisms to obtain accurate information from multiple sources. 

Chronic Disease Indicators (CDI) - CDI is a cross-cutting set of 97 indicators that were developed by consensus and that allows states and territories and large metropolitan areas to uniformly define, collect and report chronic disease data that are important to public health practice.

BRFSS Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System - Annual survey of people ages 18 years and older describing health risk behaviors, access to health care, and health status. 

YRBS Youth Risk Behavior Survey - A survey conducted by state education and health agencies that monitor priority health risk behaviors that contribute markedly to the leading causes of death, disability and social problems among youth and young adults in grades 7 through 12. It is conducted in the spring of odd years.
