At North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS), our work impacts individuals, families and communities across the state every day. Whether supporting public health, behavioral health, economic assistance, child welfare, aging services, administration or operations, each role contributes to our mission: making North Dakota the healthiest state in the nation by reinforcing the foundations of well-being: physical, economic and behavioral.
HHS fosters positive, comprehensive outcomes by promoting economic, behavioral and physical health, ensuring a holistic approach to individual and community well-being. The key to delivery of those services is the nearly 3,000 committed, compassionate HHS team members and more than $6 billion in funding from nearly 400 different federal, state and special sources.
At HHS, the way we work matters just as much as the work we do. We strive to create an environment where people feel supported, valued, connected to meaningful work and encouraged to grow.
Leading with LIGHT
At HHS, we lead with LIGHT — leading with hope, instilling purpose and meaning, galvanizing gratitude, honoring health and well-being, and talking, walking and teaching civility, kindness and respect for all.
That means supporting one another through challenges and change, creating space for ideas and continuous improvement, recognizing the value each team member brings and fostering trust, collaboration and open communication.
We believe leadership happens at every level and encourage people to grow, contribute and do meaningful work in service to North Dakotans.
Where We Work
HHS team members work in communities across North Dakota in offices, facilities and remote environments, which may include working from home and/or traveling to homes and community sites, supporting a wide range of programs and services.
HHS has offices in the state Capitol and operates behavioral health clinics across the state, along with the ND State Hospital in Jamestown, the Life Skills and Transition Center in Grafton and the ND State Lab in Bismarck.
We also partner with 19 human service zone offices across North Dakota to serve local communities.
Depending on the role, you may be working onsite, working from home, traveling or in a hybrid arrangement. Whether you are working in an office or from your home or from a client's location, you will be connected to a team and a culture of support.
