A mobile food unit is a vehicle-mounted food service establishment designed to be readily movable.

Mobile food units are licensed and inspected in North Dakota by either the local public health regulatory authority or by the Food and Lodging Unit. Reciprocity refers to when a state or local health agency in North Dakota licenses an in-state mobile food unit (MFU) operator, and another agency allows that MFU to operate within their jurisdiction without requiring an additional license; Local agencies, cities, or counties may have additional requirements.

Refer to the Mobile Food Unit Regulatory Jurisdictions Map and Reciprocity Flowchart for licensing requirements and where reciprocity is offered.
