ND Getting Started gets a refresh
ND Getting Started is the required health and safety course that licensed childcare providers must complete within the first 90 days of employment.
Beginning Oct. 1, ND Getting Started will have updated content and a refreshed training experience. The course will provide current information in an engaging and easy-to-use format while continuing to cover the health and safety topics required for new early childhood professionals.
This is a refresh of the existing ND Getting Started course, not an additional training requirement. Look for the refreshed course on the ND Early Childhood Training Calendar beginning Oct. 1.
Two new courses to explore
Two new courses will also be available on the training calendar beginning Oct. 1.
ND Early Learning Standards
How do young children grow, learn, and thrive? The ND Early Learning Standards course provides information about developmental milestones across several areas of development, also called domains. This course will help you understand how young children grow and learn. You will also learn how to use the standards to support your work with children.
Adult Learning Foundations
The Adult Learning Foundations course is designed for trainers and coaches in North Dakota. The course covers the basics of adult learning, including:
- How adults learn
- Key principles of adult learning
- How adults apply what they learn
- Strategies for teaching adult learners
- How to create a learning environment that meets adult learners' needs
This course will give trainers and coaches practical information and strategies to support adult learners and create effective learning experiences.
Child Care Provider Orientation - New Languages Added
Starting Oct. 1, 2026, Child Care Provider Orientation will also be available in Spanish and Somali.
A fresh take on ND Safe Sleep
Starting Jan. 1, 2027, HHS will introduce a new version of ND Safe Sleep in English, Spanish and Somali.
There is an important change to know about: ND Safe Sleep will have two versions that alternate each year.
You will only need to complete one version each year. You will not need to complete both versions. The version available each year will be listed on the ND Early Childhood Training Calendar:
- ND Safe Sleep – Version 1: Odd Years
- ND Safe Sleep – Version 2: Even Years
The versions will alternate each year to keep the training content fresh while making it easy to know which training you need to complete.
