I am pleased to share a new funding opportunity available through the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP).
The Rural Ambulance Modernization funding opportunity is intended to strengthen rural emergency medical services and bring high-quality care closer to home by supporting strategic investments in updated medical equipment, telehealth technology, electronic medical record connectivity, communications infrastructure, and other technologies that enhance emergency medical response.
Ambulance service districts are eligible to apply, as are ambulance services that are not required to become ambulance service districts under North Dakota Century Code § 23-27-07. Please review the application for complete eligibility requirements.
Approximately $22 million in federal funding is available through this opportunity, with individual awards expected to average approximately $200,000. Eligible projects may include the purchase, installation, configuration, and implementation of equipment and technology that modernize licensed rural ambulance services and improve the delivery of emergency medical care.
Additional RHTP funding opportunities may be offered in future years. Applicants are therefore encouraged to propose projects that address current operational needs while also reflecting a broader vision for the future of telehealth and out-of-hospital care.
Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on August 9, 2026.
