North Dakota Newborn Screening Advisory Committee

Mission

To promote early identification and treatment of conditions through newborn screening and to ensure availability and access to quality genetic health care services for all newborns.

Purpose

Serves in an advisory capacity to inform and enhance the decision-making process of the ND Newborn Screening & Follow-up program to ensure alignment with best practices and national standards.

The program will provide oversite, leadership, technical expertise, advice and support to the Committee on program responsibilities relating to the design and implementation of the program, priorities and policies, regulations, data collection, surveillance and reporting, new disorders and dissemination of information and education to internal and external partners. 

Member Composition

The committee consists of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, midwives, laboratory staff, family members, family advocacy programs and individuals with an interest in promoting newborn screening services. 

Meeting Frequency

Meetings occur quarterly with three virtual meetings and one in-person meeting per year.

Mission

To create a collaborative environment among service providers and families where families are supported throughout their child’s journey with Early Hearing screening, Diagnosis, Early Intervention and Family Support.

Purpose

To guide and strengthen systems that identify hearing loss in infants early to ensure timely follow-up and support is provided to families. 

Membership Composition

The committee is comprised of various EHDI stakeholders such as audiologists, nurses, midwives, early intervention providers, parents of Deaf/hard of hearing children and family support staff. 

Meeting Frequency

The committee meets virtually twice per year. The next meeting is scheduled for May 5, 2026, at 10:00 am CST.
