Individuals and families are invited to the fourth annual Gateway to Health community event, which includes activities for all ages on Saturday, April 18, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. at North Dakota’s Gateway to Science in Bismarck. Participants will enjoy free access to the science center during their registered two-hour time slot, along with access to interactive booths and exhibits promoting health and wellbeing through hands-on activities, games and prizes.
Co-sponsored by North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS), Bismarck State College and North Dakota’s Gateway to Science, the event features over 20 exhibitors.
Commenting on the event goals, HHS Community Engagement Unit Director Krissie Mayer said, “Gateway to Health events in Bismarck and elsewhere help raise awareness, in a fun way, about community resources and programs that support health and wellbeing and meet families in ways that work best for them.”
Event highlights include a virtual reality career exploration demonstration from Job Service North Dakota, optical eye health information from Costco Optical, Child Passenger Safety Program resources and a car seat safety simulator. Attendees can also explore outdoor exhibits, such as the Metro Area Ambulance and the University of North Dakota’s Simulation in Motion mobile health professional education and training truck.
Other participating organizations include North Dakota Medicaid’s wellness visit program for children, Bank of North Dakota, ND Navigators who help connect people to health coverage, Mandan Police Department, Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health, Western Plains Public Health and Northland Health Center.
North Dakota HHS programs participating include ParentsLead, Women’s Way breast and cervical cancer screening, oral health and injury prevention. HHS team members will also share information on emergency preparedness, disease prevention, Medicaid, behavioral health resources and more.
Space is limited. Preregister by April 17 at bismarckstate.edu/gatewaytohealth to reserve a preferred two-hour timeslot. Options include 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., 12 - 2 p.m. or 2 - 4 p.m., CT. Priority will be given to those who register in advance.
