Home Health Aide, Medication Assistant and Nurse Aide
Per North Dakota Administrative Code 33-43-01, application fees are non-refundable. For example, when one check is submitted to pay for ten applicants and one applicant cannot be processed, all fees will be kept, and nine applicants will be processed. A notice rejecting one applicant will be sent with an additional fee required to pay for the application fee. Health Facilities does not process paper applications.

- Initial application date flexible but renewal will be September 30 for Nurse Aide, Home Health Aide, Medication Aide 1 and Medication Aide 2 unless coupled with Certified Nurse Aide.
- It is not necessary to become a Medication Aide 1 before you become a Medication Aide 2
- You must be a Nurse Aide or a Certified Nurse Aide to be a Medication Aide 1.
- Only a Certified Nurse Aide can be a Medication Aide 2.

Expiration & Renewal Rules
- Any category paired with a CNA has a flexible expiration date based on the CNA’s last day worked.
- Initial application dates are flexible, but renewal occurs on September 30 for NA, HHA, MA I, and MA II, unless the category is coupled with a CNA.
MA I / MA II Requirements
- It is not required to become an MA I before becoming an MA II.
- You must be a Nurse Aide (NA) or Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) to be an MA I.
- Only a CNA can be an MA II.
