Advancing North Dakota Health and Human Services’ (HHS) mission of making North Dakota the healthiest state in the nation by incentivizing healthy choices for SNAP participants, while also supporting local businesses in providing access to healthy food.
Double Up Food Bucks is a produce incentive pilot program that helps SNAP participants stretch their food dollars while increasing sales of fruits and vegetables at participating stores.
When SNAP customers purchase eligible fruits and vegetables, they will receive a dollar-for-dollar match to buy more produce during their next shopping trip.
This program is supported through a partnership between HHS, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota Caring Foundation and the Rural Electric Cooperative Association of North Dakota for funding of the incentive match.
The produce incentive will be offered for six months beginning with an est. start date in August.
Customers who use their EBT card to purchase fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables at participating grocery stores will receive a dollar-for-dollar match on those items.- The match will be provided as a coupon printed on the customer’s receipt.
- Customers can then use the coupon to purchase additional fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables within 14 days.
