Promoting Interoperability Program Public Health Reporting
North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services (NDHHS) accepts electronic messages to help facilities meet public health reporting requirements in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Promoting Interoperability Programs (PIP).
Eligible Professionals, Eligible Hospitals, and Critical Access Hospitals can register their intent for:
- Syndromic surveillance reporting
- Electronic laboratory reporting
- Electronic case reporting
- Immunization reporting
For more information about program requirements, review the 2025 Promoting Interoperability Memo.
Program Registration
First, verify that your EHR vendor has certified the public health reporting requirements.
When your organization is ready to start onboarding, register your intent with NDHHS. By registering, you confirm one of the following:
- Your organization is ready to begin testing now for the measure(s) you plan to attest to.
- Your organization will be ready to start testing in the first 60 days of the EHR attestation period.
- Your organization is not reporting public health measures yet. Your organization is ready to start participating and begin testing.
NDHHS may reject a registration if a facility or provider is not ready to begin onboarding.
To register your intent for electronic laboratory reporting, syndromic surveillance, and/or electronic case reporting, complete the Promoting Interoperability Program Registration form.
To register your intent for immunization reporting, visit the Immunization Interoperability page. North Dakota Immunization Information System (NDIIS) information is also available on the page.
Report antimicrobial use and resistance surveillance data through CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) system.
