The Food and Lodging Unit is responsible for protecting public health through licensing and inspection of food, lodging, assisted living, mobile home/RV parks/campgrounds, body art, and tanning. Inspection procedures ensure that licensed establishments meet sanitation and certain fire/life safety standards before opening to the public and while in operation. Certain license requirements are waived under Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with eight local health units whereby the MOUs provide licensing and inspections of establishments operating within their areas of jurisdiction.
