The third annual Gateway to Health community event, which includes activities for all ages will take place Saturday, Aug. 23, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. in Bismarck. Participants will enjoy FREE access to North Dakota’s Gateway to Science during their registered two-hour time slot, along with access to interactive booths and exhibits promoting health and well-being and offering activities, games and prizes.  

Co-sponsored by North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS), Bismarck State College and North Dakota’s Gateway to Science, the event features over 25 exhibitors.  

Highlights include a virtual reality headset demonstration from Job Service North Dakota, hands-only CPR training from the American Heart Association and blood pressure checks and general immunizations from CHI St. Alexius Health. Attendees can also explore Bismarck Aero flight simulators, the Vision Zero crash simulator and the University of North Dakota’s mobile health professional education and training simulation truck, Simulation in Motion - North Dakota.

Some other participating organizations include Missouri Valley Family YMCA and Family Wellness of Bismarck-Mandan, the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality, North Dakota Highway Patrol, Bank of North Dakota, Mandan Police Department, Metro Area Ambulance, Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health, Western Plains Public Health and North Dakota State University Extension.

The HHS mobile medical unit will also be on site, and HHS team members will share information on emergency preparedness, disease prevention, Medicaid child wellness visits and behavioral health resources.

“To achieve our vision of North Dakota being the healthiest state in the nation requires working closely with community partners to focus on prevention and early intervention and connecting North Dakotans to programs, services and resources that can meet their unique needs,” said HHS Community Engagement Unit Director Krissie Mayer.

Attendees are encouraged to preregister by Aug. 21 at bismarckstate.edu/gatewaytohealth to reserve their preferred two-hour timeslot option: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., 12 - 2 p.m. or 2 - 4 p.m.  

For this FREE event, registration is not required, but space is limited, and priority will be given to those who register in advance.
