Q: How do I add or change my employer in my Growing Futures account?

A: It’s easy to add your employer to your individual profile.

  • Log in to your Growing Futures account.
  • Check “Become a member” and then click “Apply/Renew”.
  • Complete each section of the membership profile and be sure to click “Save and Continue” for each section.
  • When you get to the “Employment” section, click “Edit” and then “Add Position”.
  • Select “North Dakota Regulated Child Care and Education” if you work in a child care program, including self-employed.
  • Select "North Dakota Professional or Local/State Agency" if you work for a training, government or support agency.
  • Use your program’s Growing Futures organization ID# to look up your employer. You can also search for your employer by name, city, DHS license number, or tribal affiliation. TIP: entering the least amount of information seems to return the best results. For example, enter “Beth Anderson” or "Busy Babies" instead of “Beth Anderson’s Busy Babies Child Care.” If entering your DHS license number, do not use any spaces or dashes even if those appear on the license.
  • When you find your employer, click on the name and then “confirm”.
  • Add your position and your start date. You can also add previous positions you’ve held along with the end date when you left that employment. Be sure to click “Save and Continue”.
  • Complete the rest of the membership profile and be sure to click “Submit” at the end.

Q: How do I add college courses to my Growing Futures record?

A: College courses can be added to your Growing Futures record and counted as training toward childcare licensing under the following circumstances:

  • The course was completed at an accredited college or university in the United States
  • The course provided at least one semester hour of credit
  • The course content was 80% specific to the Early Childhood period. NOTE: Development, learning, and teaching in the birth-8 years age range is unique and distinct from development and teaching practices in the elementary grades. Therefore, most K–6 coursework does not meet the 80% criteria and is not added to Growing Futures records. However, degrees in elementary education are included in the system as “related” degrees.
  • The course is shown on your official transcript sent directly to the Registry by the institution that issued the credits; see Send Documents or College Transcripts
  • You successfully completed the course with a letter grade of “C” or higher

Q: My Growing Futures Learning Record is not showing the training I have completed, what do I do now?

A: Please allow the Training Sponsor 10 business days (excluding holidays and weekends) from the time you submit your training to award credit (if you passed) and for the course to appear on your Learning Record. After 10 days, if you do not see your training having a date under Completed and showing “Verified” under your blue "Training" tab or on your DHS Licensing Training Record, please contact the Training Sponsor directly.

The Training Sponsor contact information is found in the training description located in the event on the Training Calendar. Click on the green "View Details" button on the event for additional information. It can also be found in your Growing Futures Account under the blue "Training" tab by clicking on the title of the training event. If your specific training is not listed in either place, search for the sponsor on the Training Calendar for another event they may be sponsoring.

Q: What is the difference between a transcript and the Growing Futures Learning Record?

A: A transcript is an official transcript from the College sent directly to the Growing Futures Registry to be verified. A Growing Futures Learning Record is a list of your complete training of clock hours for licensing.

Q: How do I know if I have completed the Basic Child Care/Getting Started Requirement?

A: If you have met the Basic Child Care requirement, a completion date will appear in the top section of your DHS Licensing Training Record.

Q: Where can I find more Growing Futures resources?

A: Growing Futures Help Center has many useful resources!
