North Dakota Data

Data provided below is specific to each hospital for Breastfeeding Initiation and Formula Supplementation. 

In 2019, 85 percent of North Dakota mothers started breastfeeding. 

Birth Certificate Data:

Breastfeeding Initiation rates by birth hospital – This data is gathered from the birth certificate in response to the question, “Was infant breastfed at time of discharge?"

Breastfeeding Initiation rates by county of residence – This data is gathered from the birth certificate in response to the question, "Was infant breastfed at time of discharge?" 

Newborn Screening Data:

This data is collected by the newborn screening program and provides percentages of breastfeeding initiation and breastfed infants supplemented with formula in the hospital, for hospitals reporting 50 or more annual births. 

 

United States Data

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention collects breastfeeding initiation and duration data from the National Immunization Survey.

The Breastfeeding Report Card, provides state-by-state data and breastfeeding support indicators.

Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care (mPINC)
