Some people have barriers to participating in an event when we assume everyone communicates and accesses information the same way. Examples of barriers are speaking a different language than others around you or having a hearing impairment in a space that relies on the use of sound and voice. An accommodation is an action taken to remove a barrier. Examples of an accommodation would be translating information into a preferred language or offering a sign language interpreter to communicate with a member who cannot hear.
