As of May 1, 2023, ND Rent Help will no longer be accepting new applications for the rent/utility assistance program. Applications received prior to May 1, will be processed in priority order, as long as funds are available.

Households seeking assistance with home energy or cooling costs should apply for the Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

If you are experiencing homelessness the NDRH Housing Stabilization Program may be able to offer re-housing assistance.

Step 1: Register/Login to the Portal
  • Create an account on the portal. (View a user guide for this process.)
  • Save your login credentials, you will use these to be able to update your application and view your application status.

Step 2: Submit a Housing Stabilization Application
  • To see if you qualify for assistance, you will need to submit a Housing Stabilization Application
  • Your application will be reviewed by eligibility. Should your application be approved, you will receive an approval email and be assigned a Housing Stability Coach or Housing Facilitator.

Step 3: Coaching
  • If you are assigned a Housing Stability Coach, your coach will reach out to you to set up an appointment. When you meet with your coach you will review the following training materials:
  • Once you have completed training, you will log into your portal and complete the Applicant Acknowledgement and download your Letter of Commitment.
  • If you are assigned a housing facilitator with a community partner, the facilitator will reach out to you.

Step 4: Find Stable Housing
  • Once you have your Letter of Commitment, you will be able to start searching for housing in your selected county under the rent limits set by the program.
  • If you need to change your designated county, add or delete household members, you will need to contact dhserb@nd.gov or 701- 328-1907 to get a new Letter of Commitment issued.

Step 5: Submit a Housed Application
  • After you have found stable housing, you will need to submit a housed application.
  • Your application will be reviewed. Should your application be approved, you will receive an approval email and payment will be sent to your housing provider.
  • In rare circumstances, payment may be sent to renters directly.
  • You will meet with your Housing Stability Coach again to review the New Renter training.
